Here East

This unique space in the Gantry is a joyous experiment in converting open space into affordable studios for local creative businesses. Collaboration between Here East and architects Hawkins/Brown led to the repurposing of the massive steel structure from the 2012 Olympics into 21 freestanding studios with 10,000 square feet of space. Electronically manufactured timber components are used in the construction of each studio. By combining single-storey and duplex units, this approach allows for a wide range of architectural designs. Individual decorative treatments have been applied to the exterior of each studio in honour of Hackney Wick pioneers and industries from the 19th and 20th centuries.
